Education Case Study: WaterSHED
WaterSHED Development – Wardle Academy

Project Overview
Client: Wardle Academy
Project Value: £1,000,000
Completion: 2025
The WaterSHED project transformed an outdated sports hall into a bright, eco-friendly learning and dining space at the heart of Wardle Academy. Funded through Watergrove Trust reserves and Local Authority support, the 12-month scheme delivered a modern facility designed for flexibility, wellbeing, and long-term sustainability.
BDP led the architectural design, with Construction Q providing Project Management and QS services throughout. The team oversaw cost control, programme management, and coordination across all stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery on a live school site.
The new space now supports a wide range of teaching and dining activities, bringing improved flow, natural light, and high-quality finishes that uplift the student experience. Its innovative design and environmental credentials earned national recognition, including the Architects’ Journal AJ Architecture Award 2022.
A true example of how creative collaboration can reshape educational environments for the better.
