In 2017, Construction Q were invited to tender for the Quantity Surveying services for the new-build respite centre for The Joshua Tree in Nantwich. Recognising the escalating consultancy costs and the limited funding available to the charity, we made the decision to donate our services entirely on a pro-bono basis

Our remit extended further than this as we also brought in members of our own supply chain who were happy to donate their services. This was an extremely rewarding project and works were completed in 2019. We provided Cost Planning, BQ’s, Tender Services and Post Contract Valuations and Cost Management. We even sponsored the final window graphics for the grand opening when it became apparent there was nothing left in the kitty.

Works have recently been completed at Noshi, a new 120-cover modern pan-Asian restaurant and cocktail bar delivered by Daniel James Interiors in the heart of Nottingham.

Positioned as “a sensory journey shaped by flavour, detail, and atmosphere,” Noshi brings a contemporary, design-led dining experience to the city and stands as a notable addition to Nottingham’s expanding culinary landscape.

Daniel James Interiors led the interior transformation, working closely with Construction Q, who provided full commercial and cost-management support from pre-construction through to project completion. This included budget planning, procurement advice, valuation management, and financial reporting to ensure the scheme remained commercially robust while meeting the client’s design ambitions.

The project required a highly coordinated approach between design, construction, and specialist trades. With a tight delivery programme and significant bespoke elements—from custom joinery and feature lighting to textured wall finishes and carefully planned zoning—the team maintained close communication and agile problem-solving throughout. Despite the fast-track nature of the build, the project achieved a unique, high-quality finish that reflects the restaurant’s brand and experiential brief.

The successful completion of Noshi demonstrates the strength of collaboration between Daniel James Interiors, Construction Q, and the wider supply chain. It represents another standout scheme in the Daniel James portfolio and contributes a distinctive new venue for Nottingham’s hospitality sector.

"We were extremely lucky to find Construction Q where a chance phone call led to Fiona navigating us through a much needed extension to our Children's Hospice in Conwy. Fiona gave her time and services for free which meant the money saved could be spent on the children and families we support. Fiona was fully engaged throughout the build with site visits and monthly valuations which resulted in money being saved at every stage. This is important for any organisation but you can imagine more so for a charitable organisation. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were provided with an extremely high-quality service.

The WaterSHED project transformed an outdated sports hall into a bright, eco-friendly learning and dining space at the heart of Wardle Academy. Funded through Watergrove Trust reserves and Local Authority support, the 12-month scheme delivered a modern facility designed for flexibility, wellbeing, and long-term sustainability.

BDP led the architectural design, with Construction Q providing Project Management and QS services throughout. The team oversaw cost control, programme management, and coordination across all stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery on a live school site.

The new space now supports a wide range of teaching and dining activities, bringing improved flow, natural light, and high-quality finishes that uplift the student experience. Its innovative design and environmental credentials earned national recognition, including the Architects’ Journal AJ Architecture Award 2022.

This was recognised in 2019 when we were awarded the Northern Power Women Awards Small Business of the Year in recognition of the work we do to celebrate Women in Construction. Today, and every day, we recognise the fantastic women in our business, the women we work with, and the women that we inspire through our work on careers in construction. We also celebrate the the men who help us on our journey to raise awareness against bias and support is in the work we do. As Michelle Obama said, ‘there is no limit to what we, as women, can achieve’.

2019 was an extremely exciting year for Construction Q as fame and fortune beckoned. Well almost….

We were delighted to be appointed as Consultant Surveyors for Chwarel on their new tv series for Channel 4. Dubbed the new ‘Location, Location, Location’, the programme features derelict properties in need of some TLC. These properties are then gifted to 2 contestants to renovate – with a budget. If the property makes a profit once resold, the contestants keep the money which then enables them to get their own foot on the property ladder.

Our work involved reviewing the houses at auction, visiting the properties, and advising on the works needed. We were then responsible for setting the budgets for renovation – they had to be realistic – but also a challenge! It was great fun working on these properties and many came with a health warning! We can't wait to see the finished produce when the programme airs later this year.

Our Director, Fiona Hull, was interviewed by the host Simon O Brien for several of these schemes. Although we think our scenes are on the cutting room floor (!) it was still a fantastic experience and we are looking forward to being retained for series 2!

An awards ceremony, recognising people working towards gender diversity in the North, celebrated the success of individuals and businesses last night at Manchester Central. The Northern Power Women awards are in their fourth year and were founded by Simone Roche MBE to help showcase role models and best practice from across the North of England. The event welcomed over 800 people who were there to applaud the fantastic work being delivered across our regions by some of North’s inspiring individuals.

With the theme of the event being #WeCan Simone Roche encouraged every person in the room to continue being role models and to keep pushing the boundaries: “The passion and enthusiasm I saw for the winners last night is exactly why these awards are so important. The atmosphere in the room was full of hope and aspiration and it just goes to show what can happen when people work together and say yes we can,” explained Simone.
